The Mustangs face a pivotal game in their season this coming Sunday as they host Tamworth Phoenix at the Keepmoat Stadium. They need to pick up a win to keep themselves in the hunt for a home play off game but they know it won't be easy.
The Mustangs came off second best three weeks ago against East Kilbride as they picked up their first defeat of the season. The subsequent game against West Coast Trojans was cancelled at the visitors request so this is their first chance to get back to winning ways.
"We had some great preparations and most of the squad travelled up to Hamilton the day before the game, so we thought we were in good shape to take on the Pirates", said GM Mark Blyth. "But sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say we were beaten by the better team. EKP are a cut above anyone else in our conference, I doubt they will lose a game in the regular season", he added.
The Mustangs became the first team to score against the Pirates this season but were still handed a humbling 53-12 loss.
"We know we are a good team, but we still have a way to go. We were rather looking forward to the Trojans game as we were very confident in bouncing back with a win. We knew they were struggling with injuries and lost a few players during the off season. But it's never great when you are handed a forfeit win and we wish them well for the rest of the season".
So now the attention turns to Tamworth. The Mustangs split the two games last season with them, winning at home and losing away. The Phoenix are undefeated coming into the game and will prove a tough test. But the Mustangs should be at full strength for the game. Kick off at the Keepmoat is scheduled for 2.30pm
