Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what has happened to him.Aldous Huxley (1894-1963). English poet, writer, and critic
The Mustangs would prefer to ignore what happened on Sunday 14th June 2015. Rather than it become a date to forget however, it should serve as yet another staging post on the inevitable road to recovery that this team will take, once it comes of age.
A Game of two halves
June 1, 2015
A Friday night message alerting team management to the fact that the starting QB, and both starting running backs are missing for an important and long trip north of the wall, is not the most promising start to a weekend the Mustangs wanted.
By the end of the weekend, a long journey behind them and after a 26-0 defeat to the Clyde Valley Blackhawks, the Mustangs can however look back with pride at certain elements of a losing performance that give promise for the future.
2nd down - Has everyone got their breath back?

Last season the Mustangs travelled to Gateshead on opening day and were thrashed, battered and bruised by the Senators in a 60-6 defeat. On Sunday HC Paul Weston finally got the first win he so richly deserved as his team fought and battled against the odds to beat a heavily fancied opponent. It's a while since the Mustangs surprised anyone in British football, and if the improvements continue, results such as the one we saw last weekend will become the norm.
How and why did the 24 man squad pull off such a fantastic result? The Jason Gillespie school of coaching would point to the obvious answer here; that the Mustangs simply scored more points than the opposition, but I've identified three keys to the win, which are becoming more evident each week:
The winning feeling
May 25, 2015
A lot has happened since 2013, but in the world of the Doncaster Mustangs it's been the clubs most barren spell as they wandered through the desert of losing football searching for the oasis that winning brings about. On Sunday, they managed to find that Holy Grail, and all the trials, tribulations, troubles, tantrums and disappointments of the last two seasons were temporarily washed away with an incredible effort at the previously unbeaten Gateshead Senators. The game wasn't without drama; a small and depleted squad, a resurgent running game, the influence of rugby players taking over, lost teeth, and laundry advice - this game had it all.

One for the purists
May 10, 2015
There is a saying in football about 'winning ugly' which epitomises the spirit that it's no matter how you get the job done, the win is all that matters. Well today the the Doncaster Athletics Stadium, the Mustangs showed that it's also possible to lose 'ugly'.
It was the sort of game to send HC Paul Weston into despair and lead to many sleepless nights before our trip to Gateshead in two weeks. Dropped catches, missed tackles (or no tackles), mental lapses, they were all on display today and another game that could have ended differently goes into the books as another disappointing defeat to an experienced opponent.
